Fake It To Make It – A Game Design Case Study

Fake It To Make It (https://www.fakeittomakeitgame.com/) is a simulation-style game where players create fake news.

This game is a response to the growing amount of politically-charged misinformation being shared on social media. Players learn how and why fake news is distributed, and explore how political tribalism, fear, and anger can be amplified and exploited by third parties for their own gain.

Using the game as a concrete example, this session will explore game design for real-world impact. Participants will learn about visually mapping desired real-world outcomes, integrating those outcomes into gameplay, and using challenge to motivate players to learn.
